More about us

Estevam Romera

Estevam - I’ve had a connection with Charlottesville since I was a kid. My aunt came for her residency program at UVA and… never left. I first visited at age 11, and went back home to Brazil having gotten my first camera and driving my dad crazy in the process, with over 10 rolls full of crappy photos waiting to be developed.

The crappy photos served as the fuel for my wanting to learn how to do it better, and although I graduated in Graphic Design, photography was always there, along with music.

Together, these two things would end up taking me around the world, as I visited more than 40 countries over a 25-year span, traveling with bands as a photographer.

Back from the road, I would not stop: food photography became a kind of accidental professional detour, where I got to put my experience to use, while at the same time, engaging in one of my favorite activities (you guessed it, it’s eating).

Maya Melchers

Maya - I grew up in the southermost state of Brazil with three photographers in the family, one a professional and the other two, enthusiasts, in the following order: my great-uncle, my grandmother and my father. Of course, by the time I realized all this, my great-uncle had passed, my grandmother had retired her medium format camera and my father was trying to make me understand the Mathematics behind aperture stops, and I wouldn’t listen.

I can’t really pinpoint when I started as a photographer, but my first professionally published photo (for the BBC UK website, no less!) was in 2009. Since then, I have photographed countless bands and festivals, four editions of the São Paulo Fashion Week, innumerous restaurants and some weddings as well.

Some of my favorite moments so far were being selected for a solo photo exhibit in Russia in 2015, getting really up-close and personal with bands I love such as The Hives, Metric, Ghost and The Smashing Pumpkins but most of all, the food I get to eat after our photoshoots with restaurants are done ; )
